Has The Internet Out-Lived Its Usefulness?

On two occasions recently I was asked to supply a password, one to save a quote for car insurance and again when trying to gain access to a shopping site. Not ANY password, one that had to contain at least two of this, two of those, a couple of symbols and a few numbers. I felt like writing to suggest they give me the password they'd like me to use and I'll use it.
This can only be thought up by some primary school dropout who, proud to be asked to do something well out of their intellectual level decided on a course of action even more stringent than that of the CIA if only to cover their backs.
Who CARES if my insurance quote becomes common knowledge and will I ever need my passport to wander into Boots for a quick look around?
We're being strangled by ever-more complicated access codes for no good reason other than stupidity.

Unless you're doubting my integrity or even worse, calling me a liar I can't see what difference it makes - you'll soon find out if you try to gain entry yourself. You surely don't expect me to open up a can of worms
I just wondered what it was....I have never had to register in order to browse a "normal" retail website.

So you reckon just because YOU haven't that no-one else has. How arrogant!
This is all getting a bit tense.

Yeh, he got upset with my mild rebuke and he's been trying to regain his dignity ever since.
There is just no reasoning with this person.....and by the way I am "she"

I was going to let sleeping dogs lie, but I can't resist another prod.

LewPaper, I am genuinely interetsed to know which site requires you to register with a complex password in order to browse their products or services.

Please share.
Like Maydup - plus many sites have a 'call me back' option, so someone can talk to you.
I agree with the frustration Lew - now here's an easy way to make up and remember a password.
Think of an important time or occasion in your life. Might be, when you got your first car. So you make up the phrase: I got a ford escort in 1970. The first digit of each word, beginning with a capital, would then become the password: Igafei1970
Now if a site is asking you to join with a password, ie become a member, before even giving you a basic quote, my reaction would be to shop elsewhere. But if you want that particular quote, you're gonna have to bite down on it and play it their way.
I'm used to faffing around with t'interweb and even so, their are times when sites get me to screaming point. Leave it. Leave them. Do something you enjoy. The internet is actually amazingly good.

I think this thread has wandered into an area of 'untended consequences' in that it started with OTT passwords for totally insignificant reasons and ends up discussing the reasons for and how to make up passwords.
...and you're most welcome, m'dear. Thught you was a bit stuck and needed jollying along but you probably bring it all on yourself. Examine your conscience, as Father O'Riprap used to tell us.
@Maydup......Perhaps it's a 'dodgy' site. Hence the reluctance of the OP responding to your very fair question.

Hans.
Know a lot about 'dodgy sites' do yer then Hans?
@Mrs.Sippy.....I think that my technical knowledge about the Internet is sufficient to give a short answer and say, YES.

It's surprising what is on the Internet ☺☺☺

Hans.

you know what HansUrbanica? I thought that too...I mean if it was a standard shopping type website, why all the secrecy?

Still trying to regain your dignity woof?

Try this post I wrote earlier.

"Unless you're doubting my integrity or even worse, calling me a liar I can't see what difference it makes - you'll soon find out if you try to gain entry yourself. You surely don't expect me to open up a can of worms"

Ok? Now you can try something else
Yes, come on, lets open up that can of worms. We're all up for it now Lewpaper.

I don't know about you but I'm not 100% sure about the libel laws in this country. Certainly the site exists but I for one am not going to put my head in the noose just to satisfy you lot. If you don' wanna believe me so be it and you've been responding to a waste of time but if you do you'll understand.
According to the Windows10 ads this will all become pointless anyway '' We will log on by looking into a webcam'' no passwords.
