Black screen, message in right hand corner states:

Window is not genuine.
Black Screen
Window 7 7601

I have tried Systems Restore...but doesn't work.
Tried cmd but after inserting slmgr/rearm it tells me i need "elevated privileges" to let me in.

Have Googled "elevated privileges" but far too complicated for sqad.

Any simple answers lads?

P.S Window IS genuine.

Hans...I have had it for about a year and have had trouble just a couple of times, but sorted it out by slmgr/rearm.

I bought a new desktop and the activation was already in place by the guy who sold me the new desktop.

I would trust him.
Of absolutely no help in your current status, Sqad, but next time buy Apple...

Best of luck!

Are Operating Systems really expensive to buy? It would save you having to tinker with the laptop.
@wolf63.....Short answer.....Yes.

@Sqad....Are you able to go back to the chap who sold you the PC.?

Hans.
If I should fail to respond this evening to your further comments, it will be the result of my Broadband connection failing; as it does most evenings.

Hans...thanks....I will get back to the company.
"If it is Not a genuine copy of Windows, it is understandable that you are unable to activate it. Having said that, I wold be interested to know how originally you got it working without going through an activation process."

As implied/described in my post, one can register it and it seems ok for months until MS suddenly decides to dump on you. Then you get the black screen and claim it (suddenly) isn't genuine. Getting back to the original seller (in my case of the OS) is the way I "fixed" my issue. By the way the OS still works even with the claim and black "wallpaper" background.

Yes it does.
Good afternoon Sqad.........It will be interesting to hear what is said by the company from whom you bought the PC.

The more I ponder on the matter, the more I am thinking that you have a copy of Windows 7 which is suspect. Perhaps the same copy has been put into more than one PC.

Have you been offered yet by Microsoft the opportunity to update to Windows 10.? If the answer is No, it could have something to do with your Windows 7 having some form of 'defect' and is therefore unable to accept the offer which comes in the form of an update.

Incidentally, I am Not rushing to up-date to W 10.

Hans.
