Connecting Standalone PC to Home Wireless?

I've set up my PC at home and understand that in order to connect to the wireless broadband that is already installed in the house that i need to purchase a new network card, or maybe some type of transeiver. The Problem is that i have no Idea what products on the market are any good. Any help would be appreciated!

You can buy USB Wifi adapters. Be careful though. There are 3 different types of wireless, there's A,B and G. G is the most common for home use, and cards that are built for G generally support B as well, but find out what it is first. On the wireless broadband transmitter it'll be written as 802.11a, 802.11b or 802.11g. Then just go into your local computer store and pick up an adapter.

I am not suggesting you buy either of those makes, or from that store - they are just examples of the choices available to you.

when you say PC I assume you mean a desktop and not a laptop?

If it a desktop is there a good reason why your using wireless? is it too far away from the router to use a cable, or it would be inconvenient to run a cable to it?

Wireless is not as fast, stable, secure or reliable as a wired connection but a lot of people seem to think they have to use it just because its there.
