Computer problem with windows?

I was on the net the other day trying to hire a car for a up-coming trip, all the sites were ok to surf apart from the Hertz site?? Everytime i visited it i kept getting the message' SORRY WINDOWS IS EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE-SORRY FOR THE INCONVIENCE.' My browser would try to re-open the page a couple of times before giving up!
Noticed this happening on a couple of other sites also. It's SO FRUSTRATING!! Reletively new to computing and really enjoying it apart from this!! Running Xp media center edition. computer 2 years old. Please help!!

Have you try to run system file chaker?

> Insert you windows disk
> Open run
> Type here command sfc /scannow
This process will recover your all windows files.

Thanks Very much SMITH 134 for replying to my question. I didn't mention on description of my problem that i had recently installed IE8 ! This seems to have been the root of my problems!! Some sites will not run with this??But thanks for your help. Any ideas as to why this is??
