Your neighbour(s)?
What I mean is... is your lappy picking up your neighbour's wireless connection...

snags my nearest neighbours have an average age of 80..
Could be a neighbour a bit further afield... some wireless networks have a range of 300 metres...
''I think indicates wifi connection''

What does the symbol it look like?
Question Author
well it's like (((!))) only the middle symbol is longer and it's got an orange light against it.....
'' (((!))) ''

Well that just looks plain rude...

Try and connect wirelessly and see if you get a prompt for the owner's password...
Question Author
ooh okay just a minute....
If you get asked for a password, it is wireless...

If you don't get asked but can still connect... lucky you...

'free' wireless ;-)
Question Author
ooh er it gives me an option of connecting to 3 wifi connections but they all need WEP keys...wtf ......and why has it just appeared?
''A WEP key is a security code generated in your wireless router. You need this code in order to connect to your security enabled, wireless network.''

You can't connect... maybe a neighbour has just got wireless and your lappy has picked up the new signal..
