how come, sometimes i click on the little symbol at the bottom right corner and just a small list appears and sometimes the whole pages changes to a notifications page?

if it changes the page it's because you've clicked on the icon before the page has fully loaded

And chuck - is it normal if I 'nick' photos from another person (people I know, photos I or my friends are in) - that they only come up as little ones rather than the usual fairly large ones that you can see properly...

If you mean the Halloween photos salla then it looks like you've grabed the thumbnails of the pictures (the little ones you see when you view an entire album)

You have to open each picture so you can see the large version of it on your screen then save the photo.
