Trouble downloading sites

I'm running Firefox 3.012 and am having trouble downloading most sites. The loading bar sticks at about halfway and nothing seems to happen.

I've changed from version 5 in the hope of curing this but with no joy.

Any ideas ?

You say that you've changed FROM version 5 - do you mean that you are now running v3.5.5, which is the latest non-beta version?

Sorry, I've changed from the latest version (3.5.5) to 3.012 but having the same trouble. ie sticky downloads.
