Outlook Express

We're still using Outlook Express. Usually, when we open the inbox, the first message highlighted is the one at the bottom, and that is the most recent to have arrived. However, for reasons that I can't fathom, this has suddenly changed. Now, the first message highlighted is the one at the top - the oldest one. I don't remember doing anything to make this happen.
Does anybody have any idea how I can get the program to go back to the old system?

Click on the column heading for date - clicking on the column headings changes the sort order.
