Same adverts ,different web sites-I hate ads

Having looked to buy a concrete mixer on the 'Screwfix' site I now get adverts for it ( Screwfix-concrete mixers)on other sites I brouse, survey sites, newspapers etc. What programme has 'installed itself' to be able to do this? and how do I remove it? and all adverts for that matter. ? Is it possible to have a browser advert free? Any help appreciated.

thanks , rojash, have added that to firefox, but as I use multipal browsers is there an equivalent for IE, Chrome,Safari or Opera or better still a block for all ads that can be programmed into the PC.
