need help with printer

I have a Epson SX100 3 in 1 and although it is low on coloured ink the black cartridge is a full one I cant get anything to print or copy, Ive ticked the box for black ink only, done everything I can possibly think of, but still not printing or copying, I have only had it for 18 months and its been fine up til now. any suggestions what else I could try tia.

Check cables. Is the printer powered on ok? Check connection to computer. Usually if connected correctly an error message will be displayed showing the reason why printing cannot be performed.

Are you sure it works as you think it will? I have a 4 cartridge Epson and it does not work unless all 4 are available. bummer!

You do need ink in all the cartridges im afraid.

Thanks the scanner still working ok, so yes must be due to the other 3 cartridges being low in ink, thought maybe it would try to print i.e at least send the paper through even if nothing was printed on it.

Has the black cartridge printed before, or is it a new one?. I had an Epson that wouldn't print with a new cartridge - turned out the contacts on the cartridge were duff and it was replaced for free.

yes the black cartridge has printed 2 or 3 times before.
