I have backed up the Hard Drive on my HP Laptop but don't know where files have gone. I intend to move them to an External Drive. Any help appreciated.

So you've backed up your hard drive...... To your hard drive?
If you're running windows xp or above there should be a wizaRd to help.
YOu don't move them to the external hard drive, you copy them to it - so your external is an exact copy of your laptop HD.

Alright,Copy them. Count there was no facility to copy them to External Drive.
What OS are you using? If you are using XP then you should use GFI Backup Home edition which is free and then you backup to and external hard drive. If you have Windows 7 then you can use the built in one which also makes an image of your hard drive and backs it up to an external hard drive. Given how cheap these external hard drives are now you should invest in one.

It would help if you told us more about your machine. How old is it. what CPU, what version of Windows, how much RAM?

Have you done regular maintenance such a scandisk/chkdsk (error checking), defragging, purging temp internet files, etc.?
