I had a pc with windows ME - which was awful and ful of bugs and supported nothing! So i have recently had the system wiped and windows xp and office xp put on along with some dvd software, cd writer software etc. Th problem is my computer now has no sound. When you insert a CD or DVD and it tries to play a warning message comes up saying 'you have no sound device'. But the computer had sound before so I don't understand! Does anyone know how to fix this - or where to get a sound device? I am not currently connected to the internet on the pc in question as I cannot get a line at home.

Thank you!

it sounds like you haven't installed your soundcard driver or your modem driver either which you need to do after a reformat.your graphics and motherboard will run due to xp loading generic drivers for these devicesbut to get the best from your board and to allow you to play games you will need to load these as well .hopefully you will have the installation discs which came with your modem and soundcard e.t.c.if not you will need someone to download the drivers for you from the net.

You could also check in your BIOS at start up and make sure that the on board sound is enabled.
