How do I configure outlook to receive emails from gmail.com.Ron TIA.

I have managed to configure my yahoo account. I tested it by sending a message from my gmail account. It arrived in my yahoo account instantaneously but took 15 minutes to arrive at Outlook. Still no luck with gmail though. On the gmail pages it does not list Outlook 2000 among those systems it supports.

outlook 2000 - the email accounts will be in the windows control panel under email .. changed in outlok 2003/2007 .. also gmail will be a 'pop3/smtp' account

Ok I think i have the solution..fingers crossed

go here and you will see the Tools menu is like yours

go to Services > Add > internet email

then its the usual pop3 and smpt sever names and passwords etc
enter your googlemail details.

Hi guys, another query I'm stuck on : I have 3 email accounts
Gmail.com,Hotmail.com,Gawab.com & my broadband supplier is BT.com.
When asked for pop3 (inmail) & smtp (outmail) server what is being refered to is it email supplier or broadband supplier? I must confess I have not come across anything so complicated. Ron.

I'm assuming you are trying to set these up in OUTLOOK.

It is asking for the name of the servers of the email services you are asking OUTLOOK to use to collect and send emails from

Yahoo, Gmail, hotmail etc have on their sites (and freely available all over the web) a section usually called pop3 & forwarding that will give you the names of the pop3 and smtp servers and any other info you should need.

Most ISP's also give you an email address and they will also have the pop3 and smtp details on their site that you need to set up in an email account just like Gmail Yahoo etc.

Hey, no problem Ron.

believe me when i first started with all this I was no better than you, and it does seem complicated because a lot of the stuff isnt that clear.
And as you have found out using different versions of what is in effect the same software also causes problems.

let us know how it goes because I'm sure we can get it sorted out one way or another.
Failing that you can always go back to the simple method of just sending letters, slower but easy to master !!

Just to let you know guys, after many fruitless attempts & much help from you A/Bers I have abandoned my attempts to configure Outlook to link with Gmail. I am now convinced that the problem is the age of my software ( Outlook 2000) I have now successfully downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird (one of the suggestions of Buenchico a little while back, thanks Chris) so again many thanks for all your efforts (especially your patience bazwillrun.) Ron.
