Not sure if this is the right area, or if I have got my facts right, but will post this here anyway. I have heard that AirAisa have just placed the largest ever order in history for civil airplanes. They are to be 200 A380 Airbus's, which have a list price of $18 billion, though they should be given a discount for cash. If my maths is correct, and these figures are too then this works out at only $90 million per plane. Surely this can not be correct for such a large new airplane, as had heard that Jumbo Jets (Boeing 747s) cost over $200 million each some years ago.

Can anyone confirm or deny this rumour?

Thanks as usual for your usual helpful replies.

They are listed at 300million dollars (£187million)

But as you state, airline rarely pay full list price, especially if they order a few.
think the $18 billion is how much it cost to develop BTW.
From the Airbus press office (so it should be reliable!):

Was it you who asked how many shops there were in London or something?

You don't half ask some funny questions! : )
They've gone up :) damn inflation.
Bet I could get 10% by just chatting up showroom staff.
Anyway .. where is the nearset Airbus outlet?
Imagine that! Planes going up...
Air Asia ordered the A320 Neo, not the A380
LOL MR...

you could try for PX in a skyline, Al :)
Yes, Mark, but Chuck has discovered planes which go up but which almost certainly never come down. Now that is odd!

Me? No, it was not me asking how many shops there were in London. I have never asked that quesions, and no, I do not ask funny questions. I would not do that on a public site.

Thanks for the speedy answers, by the way. Did it really cost that much to develop, and it does not even fit into some major airports, as it is too big?

The order was obtained at the Paris Air Show. That`s a major source of aircraft orders. It was for the A320neo. AirAsia just pipped the Indian budget carrier Indigo at the post. Indigo placed a US$16 bn order with Airbus in May. I bet Boeing are pleased.

The new jumbo (and there`s only one jumbo - a 747) flew across the Atlantic to the Paris Air Show and it got there on 85% aviation fuel and 15% biofuel. The biofuel was produced in Montana. Expect to see biofuel production facilities springing up everywhere if that one works out!
