I think my laptop needs a new battery. It goes flat extremely quickly these days - like 30 mins and it needs plugging in. Any suggestions from you folks?

Errr... get a new battery?

what sort of suggestions are you looking for?

Thanks for your answer Chuck, I was hoping that someone might have had the same problem and solved it in a different way to replacing the battery.
Our laptop battery only lasts about three minutes.

It looked like about £80 for a new one, so we just run it on the mains all the time instead. Ridiculous price.
Use it plugged in, permanently. No new battery needed.
Dido (and hopkirk)

the one suggestion I'd make is shop around and never buy a battery from the manufacturer. My netbook could do with a new battery.... £90 from asus, £30 from a third party supplier.

Thanks for your help, I can run it plugged in, but just occasionally I need it away from the power.
Try this if in
case it helps you:
Remove the battery, and AC power. If you have access to the battery contacts inside of the battery compartment (in some laptops it's very accessible, others its almost impossible) try cleaning the connection terminals with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. It may not be getting the proper connection necessary to charge, recharge, and report battery information to the laptop.

if not get new replace ment battery for your laptop from online shop it will cost you around £30-33.
