USB Ports have stopped working....

Sounds daft but have you tried hoovering them? Sometimes it is just dust build-up.

Whether it be lap-top or pc, it's still a pain in the nether-regions.

My dongle sometimes refuses to carry on and I then go to a different port.
Is it just your mouse and it refuses to do mouse things (That's the extent of my knowledge I'm afraid)

What OS are you using? This could be a mechanical problem ie dust build up in the ports or yoy may need to reinstall the ports . Go to the device manager and check if the ports are there and if so check each one and uninstall and reinstall them.
