Size on disk

I intend to save 'My Documents', OE address book and one or two other things on a CD. Why is it that 'My Documents' shows two sizes: Size 846 MB (887,469,972 bytes) and
Size on disk 861 MB (903,127,040 bytes)?

I been aware of differences like before but never understood the reason. Explanation appreciated, thank you
