Encoded Mpeg4 to AVI & back again!!

Since my last posting on how I can convert Mpeg4 encoded video footage which downloads to AVI format back to Mpeg, I had been recommended various software packages; WinAVI, Nero (which is the main software I use for such actions) and quite a few others.  I have indeed tried them all but with no luck at all.  I am either losing the picture quality to the extent that it hardly plays or the sound is completely distorted.  Now I'm quite happy with AVI as it stands but I wanted it in Mpeg format so I can play back on my DVD player.  Anyone have any answers?  By the way Nero will not convert it as I get a message saying Microsoft license will not allow it to convert - whatever that means!!! My camcorder is using the new Mpeg4 encoding software at 30fps and I think it is frame speed that might be causing the problems when converting to Mpeg (I have only tried converting to Mpeg 1 and 2). Cheers!

have u tried www.cucusoft.com   u can download it free
Cucusoft is a good program, and is the one I used to use before I got Nero.I am baffled as to why you cannot convert using Nero. Are you sure you have the full program, does it include Nero Express?I use Nero on an almost daily basis for converting AVI,and then burning to DVD, without any difficulty.

I definately have the full working version 6 of Nero.  When I attempt to burn the AVI films I have an error message that comes up and reads: "Microsoft License does not allow conversion!!"  Any ideas?  Thanks for your comments so far.  I will give cucusoft.com a go too!  Cheers!
