My printer is on, the cables are in (power and USB) and I've checked them- but still the PC is saying it cannot be detected. What else can I do?

Unplug the USB cable
Reinstall the printer driver (from the disk which came with the printer - or download it from the manufacturer's website).
Reboot your PC.
Plug the USB cable back in.
Cross fingers!

If Chris' suggestion didn't work (I hope it did) then check online if your printer is compatable with your OS.

My relatively new Epson had problems with Win 7 which were reported online but as far as I know never resolved!
1. Check device manager ('check' 'show hidden devices') for 'Unknown device' and remove any there by R-click/uninstall. Reboot.
2. Try moving USB cable to a different socket.

Thanks for your help- I swapped round the USB (PC end) into a different port and it worked. Weirdly, the old port worked too. I think it had got dusty perhaps?
Power usage on ports .. other in pair being used.
USB has a mind of it's own.
