Because AB is having extreme difficulty in diagnosing and fixing the problem. Why it's just started in the last week or so no one has even attempted to expain.

There's a bit in the editor's bog sorry blog about it.

Thanks for that info dzug2, I thought it was my computer playing up. It mentions that it only happens with IE9 but it also affects me on IE8.
There's also problems on Firefox.

The Ed is aware of the position and has an official 'thread' on the matter.

Ron.
I have IE7 and have found my way around it (to avoid going back to original site and returning) is to tap 'back space key' 4 times in sucession and it works!
the problem seems to be that ads are registering as pages.

If you've got 3 ads listed then going back 4 pages as julia-mag does will solve the problem.

Try right-clicking on the back button; if your browser gives you a list of past pages just move down past the ads to get to the page you want.
I know Ed has covered the topic in his blog and on a few threads but clearly a lot of users aren't seeing this

As we've had so many threads on this over the last few days (http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/search/?q1=ba
ck+button)
maybe the Ed should just put a message up somewhere that's easily visible saying that the problem is being addressed. Perhaps he needs a 'sticky' at the top of each topic.

Agreed Factor30. Many people like myself confine themselves to about 6 topics and never read the editors blogs.
The problem is with IE, not AB ... lots of other people are having the problem. on lots of other sites. For examples see:

The fix? Get yourself a decent browser, like Firefox or Chrome ...

Errors like this should not happen spontaneously. Something in the code must have been changed to get to this situation. A professional company would take a step back revert to a working copy of the software and progress from there. Wouldn't they?
Yes, rov1100, something in the code was changed - but not the AB code! Otherwise it wouldn't be affecting so many other sites ...

The fault lies with Internet Explorer and/or an Internet Explorer plugin and/or your anti-virus software and the way it interacts with Internet Explorer. So you're right, one of the companies that produces whatever software is broken needs to fix it.

In the meantime, you could use a different browser. Or you could (if you're on IE8) click the little dropdown arrow next to the back button and select the fourth one on the list, the one that isn't labelled "Advertisement" ...
