i have recently installed norton anti virus instead of my previous company one.
however to my annoyance at the moment, every time i switch the computer on it does a complete scan and slows everything up. i cant find anywhere (unlike my previous one) where you can set a day, week and time for it to come on automatically. anyone got any ideas. thanks

How are you getting on Ibizaboy?

(He didn't ask us whether we approved of his purchase, he was looking for help with his scheduling)

I can't tell you how it does it, but ours has been set to undertake a full system scan overnight on a certain day of the week. (I can't tell you how, as OH set it up)
Try
Start
Programmes
Norton 360
Norton 360
Settings
Task Schedules
I was advised not to install Norton, but to use the AVG one which is available free. Don't know how to install it myself, but if you're good with computers you could perhaps try it. My grandson installed mine.
Exactly which Norton program have you installed. Norton 360 or Internet Security or AntiVirus?
NAV 2012: Do a full scan .. alter the exceptions list and the scanning options.
It will just scan new stuff added then.
He already said ... Norton Anti-Virus .. and I know it's 2012 version.
Not Norton 360 .. or Internet Security.
Agree with Hellywelly, stay away from Norton, the best one though is Microsoft Security Essentials, far less complicated and does the job.
You're wrong PP : )

If you are paying .. there is no better .. Norton, Kasper, and one or two others are all great and will protect you better than free versions.
The best free one about for quite a while now is Microsoft Security Essentials (if you have a Windows License)
I've always used Norton, no complaints. Its easy and efficient.
We are very pleased with Norton products, so each to their own.
Erm Albags, read my post again...it does say MSE does it not lol ?? Norton is not worth the money, MSE is the best free one. Norton is just a nightmare once it is installed and a bugger to uninstall.
It's not a nightmare for us, purple, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
I have been using Norton Internet Security for several years now with no problems.
Never had any problems with Norton myself apart from the price!
Just from personal experience and a few other mates that work in IT, it was forever and a day updating and installing and reinstalling update after update - you couldnt get on doing stuff on the pc, it was way too time consuming for us, once you logged on you needed an hour to let norton do its thing.
well, not any longer, purple - yes we can tell it to do things, but downloads take place behind the scenes, we can still work on the computer while Norton is updating.
Hi Boxtops - sorry, but I've no time for Norton. It actually writes itself into many of your applications, and has more conflict problems than most.

Google Norton problems OR Remove Norton and be very afraid <]:-)

I use AVG, which is free, and has never given any hassle.

Still, as they say, one man's meat is another man's Norton...
I see PP .. and I saw ..

But you clearly do not know enough about Pc's and antivirus protection .. and history. Why pass on this heresay like gossip?
It is no problem to uninstall .. Since 2010, it will uninstall in about 2 minutes on XP or 7. Prior to this date, one needed a removal tool to get everything off.

NAV is around £14-18 per annum covering up to 3x PC's. online.
It causes us no apparent problems, though, and we are happy with it...
