Firefox bookmark toolbar

When I first start my computer the Firefox bookmark tool bar does not appear.

To make it appear I first have to go to View, toolbars, and un-tick the bookmark window, and then re-tick the bookmark window, it is only then that my bookmark toolbar reappears.

Can anyone please tell me what the problem is?

My browswer if Firefox 8.0.1 and my operating system is XP.
