I would be so grateful if someone could advise me here. My grandfather has a very old television set (I think he's had it between 15-20 years); we recently bought him a freeview box so that he could watch the extra channels. Within a fortnight the box had stopped working - i.e. it only shows a red, rather than a green light, and would not turn back on, no matter what we tried.
Subsequently we bought him a new (very decent) freeview box for Christmas. The exact same thing has happened, - we now cannot get it to work. It is as if the remote has packed up, or the box just will not turn on. I am sure it is not a remote/batteries problem, as we have tried new batteries etc.
I am beginning to wonder whether it might be the television that is at fault, and the new boxes just cannot work with it? Does anyone have any advice, or know of any web forums that I might check out for this?
I have obviously suggested to him that he get a new television! But I don't want to force him to spend money if unnecessary...
I presume the Freeview Boxes were connected to the TV with a Scart lead.
They will be under Guarantee so take the faulty Boxes back to the shop and demand a replacement/refund.
Your Grandfather could do with a new TV which has inbuilt Freeview
why didn't you take the first freeview box back (presuming you didn't). a 32 " lcd tv now a days with freeview from £199.99 argos and he get all the freeview channels and wide screen
