Most older people tend to prefer homely homes full of memories than minimalist designer homes. I must admit to a few things on display that may well not be exactly up to designer standards. (Well more than a few really). Also, generally, us 'oldies' don't tend to keep decorating and trying to keep up to modern trends so much. Our homes are more 'lived in'.

Must admit I don't like figurines or porcelaine birds, etc. I tend to go for more quirky things that fit in with my cottage. I have a family of wooden ducks that live on a very low window sill in my cottage and blend in with the garden they look out onto outside. I don't like just random ornaments all in a line on a shelf. But each to his own.
Ornaments and pictures can add an awful lot of character to a room in my opinion. And blow the dust. I don't do dusting anyway!!
