help please with laptop problem

On starting up my laptop today, suddenly had blue screen with warning of corruption so not allowing me to go any further. Trying to do safe mode it stops at the AntiVirus bit. Someone did hard drive test from start up utility & it shows Test Status #2-07 Fail. Any one got any idea what's wrong with it? Appreciate your help ...

With that sort of failure my inclination would be to boot off a CD/DVD, preferably a repair/recovery one. Check out the drive from there. See if any corruption can be fixed, then back everything off if you've not already done so.

If not, then the general conscensus for all other OS's, is that the hard disk is failing, run a backup to an external drive, then you'll need a new hard drive. :-(
