Blackberry have had their fingers burned with the home market and are concentrating more on the business market.

Instead go for an Andriod phone (Samsung Galaxy S2 or S3 for example)

Chepaer than an iphone and every bit as good

Thanks VHG .... do android phones have access to the same types of apps as iPhones? I really am clueless!
Do you keep your existing handset when your contact allows you a new one ? If so, keep using the Blackberry you have and ask for the most expensive handset they allow, for you to flog at any well known Internet tat bazaar
If you love it then keep the phone and ask for a cheaper contract instead of an upgrade. Thats what I did and now spend about £20 less a month.

Have thought of this too Old_Geezer ..... and it's still an option ......... especially as the Blackberry was repaired (and in the main replaced) late in 2011 so isn't as old as the contract states ... but knowing my luck it would break as soon as I sell the new one - and they won't repair it if not the on issued on the contract upgrade .................... it's a gamble!
I'd stick with what you like. I don't like Blackberrys to small break to easily, but who's to say that you would like anything I recommended. Everyone says oh my phones great etc, but if Blackberrys for you and your happy.

I do love the BBerry - but am tempted with the Samsung S3 ....... keeping it I mean not selling it ..... is it as good/better than the iPhone?
echo I have never had an Iphone because I don't like Apple so you have to take a pinch of salt. I got a Galaxy II last year, its the best phone I have ever owned bar none, it eats battery power like a kid on a packet of monster munch and it has "its moments" but I love it.

Thanks Davethedog - I think my mind is made up - thank you!
The key thing with a smartphone is what software it runs (like your computer needs Windows a phone needs software to keep it running).

The iPhone (from Apple) runs software called iOS.

Many other phones run Android software (owned by Google) and this is a huge growing market (Samsung sold far more Android phones last year than Apple sold iPhones).

Apple have their own app store, and Android have their own app store as well.

Blackberry does not run iOs or Android it runs it own software, but Blackberry is a shrinking market and far more people are likely to write apps for iOS and Android in the future than for Blackberry.

Apple iPhones are good but the charge a premium price.

Samsung Galaxy S2 (and the newer S3) are both excellent phones. The S3 runs the latest version of Android but will be more expensive than the S2.

If I were you I would jump ship from Blackberry and go for an Android.

Thank VHG - your answer was very helpful - and I think my mind is made up and I shall go for the samsung galaxy s3 ..... am not a big fan of apple, but had it in my mind that the iPhone was great - but now I see perhaps there are better things out there - so thank you for your help (and everyone else too!!)
Galaxy S2 here also - very, very happy.

Not only is it a good smartphone, but it has the best quality for voice calls I've ever had too - and gets a signal in some places that previous phones couldn't get near.
