Computer suddenly turned 'laggy'

I bought a gaming computer several weeks ago which has very high specs and used to play games perfectly. But today when i loaded up a game that i had previously played(worked great), it was lagging ALOT, which made it unplayable. Can anyone think of how i can resolve this? Thanks

Something else seems to be hogging your computer's resources.

If the problem occurs again, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to enter the Task Manager. Select the 'Processes' tab and look down the 'CPU' column. The only high figure (other, possibly, than the game you're playing) should be against 'System Idle Process'. If anything else is high, that's the cause of your problem. (If you need help in identifying what an oddly-named process really is, please post again).

If it's an online game it could be at the server end.

no all my games are offline, i dont understand, i used to be able to play all games on ultra settings, now im having to put them on minimum...?

It could be malware (which often doesn't show up under 'Processes').

Download, install and run (preferably while in Windows Safe Mode) the free version of Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware:

If you still get stuck, try running System Restore to take your PC's registry back to a date before the problem arose.

running malwarebytes changed everything, games work fine now thanks very much
