samsung galaxy ace - email spam floods through...how do i stop it?

on my galaxy, GT-S5830, when my email comes through it also allows through all the spam, that on my desktop gets put in the spam folder - how can i stop this, its driving me mad.

also lots of these emails then appear as already read on my desktop - even when i havent even opened them.

this is also annoying as i could miss a message.
i cant find anything particular in the settings to separate the spam

any ideas?
