Answering machine

Just bought a new cordless telephone that comes with an answering machine.
My question is will the answering machine interfere with my broadband? There is a filter between the phone and the computer.
Should that be sufficent?

No, absolutely not. My answerphone sits by my computer. There's a splitter at the junction box - phone one way, computer hub the other way.

with a cordless phone you might find you lose internet connection when it rings whether its got a filter on or not i've never been able to solve that ,i finished up buying a wired phone, its got something to do with the cordless phone being on the same frequency as the router etc
I can't say that's ever happened to me, alan, I wonder if it's your system - our computer's been on all day today and the cordless phone has rung several times.

I had a similar problem and after much faffing about and arguing with my ISP and BT I did the "Quiet Line Test" which involves disconnecting all extensions, unscrewing the front plate from the master socket, plugging a corded phone into the test socket (which sits behind the front plate) and dialling 17070 (Option 2). If you can hear the slightest bit of noise - at its worst like someone frying bacon! - there is a fault on the line. When I finally ignored the BT help (!) centre in Bangalore who repeatedly said "No fault on line" I called a BT engineer out. He did a quick check and within 10 seconds had agreed there was a fault on the line which, in his words, "would be enough to knock your broadband out". He rectified the problem in a couple of hours and I've had no problems since that time.
