I'm trying to create an invitation 'card' for hubbys birthday on Word Pad or Note pad but I can't find all the various shapes one can put on it. Where are they? I used to have them on a lower bar. They've disappeared.

You sure you dont mean Word

Notepad is just a text editor and is about as basic as you can get, and has never been anything more
Wordpad is a small step up, basic text formatting and AFAICR you could add pictures from a file but it didnt have any graphics/shapes that came with it
As I've already said in reply to a previous question, if you want a free trial of MS Office 2010 (which includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint) you can get it here http://office.microso..._MonTry&culture=en-us
This is a 60 day trial which can be extended to 180 days.
It will enable you to read all those "gibberish" files that you couldn't access after you'd spring cleaned your computer earlier this year.
