Speakers For Tv

I've had a small TV in my bedroom for some years now but I very rarely watch it as the sound isn't very good.
Looked on the internet for speakers but they all seem to be for PC's.
I can't find the instruction book so don't even know if you can fit speakers to it.
On the back of the TV there's a yellow coloured thing that says Audio VGA input. there are other things in red, blue, green but I've no idea what they are for.
Could you tell me how I would know if speakers can be fitted and would PC speakers work?

if you have a headphone socket there are numerous "ACTIVE" small speakers which would suit you

I can't see a headphone socket but while looking for one I've noticed some more things down the side and one is a USB socket but don't know what you would plug into that.
Have also noticed on the back there are red and white things that say L and R so would that be for speakers?

The red and white sockets are RCA (or 'phono') outputs. If you get hold of a lead like this one

you can (unsurprisingly) put the red plug into the red socket and the white plug into the white one. Then you can plug ANY (amplified = 'active') computer speakers into the 3.5mm socket on the other end of the cable.

Just bought a phono(RCA) to 3.5 stereo jack for 19 pence on Amazon. This is to connect a laptop to the Hi Fi amplifier and speakers If linking direct to speakers you may need an amplifier to get good sound. Manuals for most things can be found on the web.

I've looked on the web for a manual seadogg but the only thing I can find about this TV is people wanting to sell it on gumtree!
I understand now from Chris that I need a lead that plugs into the tele I just need to see exactly what I need at the other end of the lead. If I need an amplifier AND speakers I might not bother as I don't have a great deal of room for them near the tele. So whatever I need would have to be pretty small.

Computer speakers come in two types, 'passive' and 'active'. The passive ones don't have any amplifiers built into them; they're just speakers. (They're unsuitable for your purposes as you need an amplifier circuit, with a volume control - and preferably a tone control as well). 'Active' speakers have the required amplifier.

Deggers link is one possibility. Those speakers have got a tone control (which, given that you're trying to improve the sound, is highly desirable). The power output is 2.5W. Most hi-fi buffs would laugh at such a figure but it's perfectly adequate for bedroom use. In fact, having done a bit of googling, they're probably exactly what I'd buy if I had to buy new speakers - but so many charity shops now sell good quality amplified speakers for just a pound or two that (being a skinflint) that's where I'd actually start looking!

Your most recent post wasn't there when I started typing my last one.

The 3.5mm socket (on the end of that lead) accepts the same type of plug as you'll find on the headphones for a CD player, personal radio, laptop, etc. A 3.5mm plug is fitted to every set of computer speakers that I've ever come across.

Well Chris I'm not a skinflint but obviously I don't want to spend too much as it's something I would make use of only occasionally.
So I gather that what I want is a not too expensive fairly small active speaker/s?
As I always think of you as the King of links I'm sure you can find one that will give me a rough idea of what they look like.

I should also add that I prefer to go and buy them from a shop than send for them on the internet.

I got some good active speakers from a charity shop for 50p which plugged into a bedroom TV. Have a mooch miss p.

Ok, I don't want to send for anything off the internet so I take it I can go to Currys etc and ask for a pair of multi media speakers and one of those leads and then I'm sorted.
