Can some one tell me the pros and cons of joining 'facebook' or any other forum as well as Answer Bank ? In particular with respect to preserving ones anonymity.

FB can be friend of foe dependent on how you use it. Keep it to 'real' friends only, have your security settings private and never subscribe to public forums through FB and its not bad. It amazes me how some people think it quite normal, in fact brag about it, that their FB profile is public because they have nothing to hide. Following 'dottygate' I managed to access around 4 AB members profiles, 2 of which were public. Out of pure curiosity I decide to see how far I could go into their lives and through clicking from one profile to another found enough 'private' information for me to do some serious stalking if I was wanting to (which obviously I'm not). This included place of work, husbands name and place of work, daughters name and school attended, direct link to daughters FB page and family photos and more...scary stuff. So FB is great for keepingin touch with real people you know but keep your privacy settings high.
You sound like a stalker jane
pusskins : ha ha good job I'm just a nosy old bag then isn't it?
Modeller, why not join a forum about something you're interested in rather than a 'social media' type thing? That way you can get to chat with those you have something in common with, and most forums on a particular subject do have a chat section anyway where you can chat off topic about anything you want to.
I belong to about ten forums on various subjects and have a different username for each of them.
ha ha yes jane. Why bother to even look? lol
like I said pusskins, it was following the post in which dotty was upset about her private stuff being posted from AB onto FB and loads of people were saying you couldn't access Ab'ers private info from FB -it was to prove a point, which I did.
Really quite a bit weird Jane.

I like FB, get to see photos of various babies being had by family, and it was great when my sister lived in Australia, we communicated on there all the time. I still have a very good friend in Australia and use FB to be in touch with her.
okey dokey jane. I thought it amazing that all this happened with dotty, such a shame ay x
But all the info you got, Jane, could probably be found out gossiping in the corner shop. I say that because the people in the corner shop know more about me than any of my friends on FB or in real life.

Why should we worry about our pictures being public? I see strangers everyday of my life, I even talk to them sometimes. In general the internet is NOT full of nutters and we have nothing to fear, in general.
I don't see JaneDoe2's actions as a bit weird at all. Humans are curious by nature, females especially so! I defy anyone, given an idle hour not to do what she has done to a lesser or greater degree.

I've never even used FB, never joined nor had the desire. Call me weird but I have no desire to put my public, work, personal and/or private life(yes, I know all about the Settings, spare me the lecture puleeeez!) on full view for all and sundry on the internet. Furthermore, I don't have a yearning for putting my every waking thought on their in the hope that it will be 'liked' by others.

I do get miffed when people in work or on nights out want to take my photo, only to be re-buffed(politely initially, then more sternly after several attempts) which leads to me being labelled a killjoy, spoilsport etc.

I've seen the damage such photographs cause, along with work colleagues who've split up then one has berated the other for not changing their relationship status quickly enough!

For those that use it, enjoy it and love it I wish you all the best, whatever floats your boat. Most sports but particularly cycling, rugby(not to mention socialising) do it for me.

C'est la vie.
Afternoon. I'm going to move this to Tech as it doesn't really serve a purpose here... :)
'Thought on there' even.
don't do it, unless of course you don't put any personal details on it as some seem to do.
I like DT's version of FB, faecesbook..
I love Facebook, and spend ages on it each day. I think it's a great way to stay in touch with friends - people seem far more likely to respond to a message on FB rather than an email. And I've heard some fab gossip on there over the years ;-)
I like facebook. I can be in touch with my family abroad and in the UK and also chat to friends I have made through the internet but never met. I keep my privacy settings high though and don't make friends just for game playing purposes.
Ummmm The trouble with FB is that someone who does not want their life bandied around the net may have no choice if you decide to post it publicly on your wall. I've had hideous pics of me taken then posted on a third party FB page with a link which results in all my family and friends seeing them. Fair enough if you just stick to your pics that you decide to show but it doesn't work that way
I only registed on FB to see the posts from my family members who live away and I don't get to see very often. I have a page but never use it. Lots of friends ask me to be their "FB friend" but I just ignore the requests. If the truth is known I don't understand it much, am a bit scared as I don't know which settings to use for privacy etc and not sure if I really like it, people write such nonsense on there!
people write such nonsense on there!

We do that here too Ann86, there's just no like/dislike option! :-D
I go on my f/book every day. Not to post, but look.
Amazing how I keep up with family and friends and only post accasionally.
Have never put photos on my page --havent got a clue how to do it.
But hey, am I bovvered? Nah. F/book is good for family, friends communication annit x
it only occurred to me a little while ago that photo's of me might be on FB, not by me as i won't have an account, but some of the family might, and it worries me because it would be without my permission. I have no idea how to even find out either, except ask?
