I have used just over 2 gb storage space of around 11.5 gb available, however when I try and update facebook which wants 14 MB it says insufficent space available. would somebody explain why this should be. Thanks

Is that available storage space on your phone or on your memory card ? You may need to free up space on your phone by transferring some files to your card.

I dont have a memory card fitted, the puzzle is that it would appear that I have space available without a memory card, 9gb or more but i cannot download a 14mb update

I have a similar problem, fourteen85. There doesn't seem to be an option on the menu to transfer to a memory card; I took the phone (same model) to the Orange shop and they couldn't see how to do it either.

It could be a cache storage problem. There is some info listed here on how to go about clearing down the cache:
