How do I get my own website?

Please don't laugh,but I'm fairly new to all this internet and technology stuff. How do I go about getting my own website? Is it through one of those ads that you see on computer mags.? Is there anywhere on the web that would give me more information about this and all it entails? (Costs,skills needed etc.) Thankyou!

depends what the website is for really, if it is a business or project venture then sites like 123 are good places to get hosted, however if u are just wanting it for fun reasons such as putting a few pics etc as a fan club or something low key like that, then there are free websites available u can sign up to and get your own webpage and tools such as www.angelfire.com

You should have some webspace with your ISP. Have a tinker with this first. If this is not enough then look into getting something a bit more substantial.
