Just after receiving a PDF document in my email as I told you I was receiving important emails this morning. Anyway I couldn't download it and I replied to her telling her so - she emailed me back - she couldn't do it either.

If it ever happened again what shall I do - or do I need to download something.

thanks

well if she couldn't open it either maybe it was corrupted....Adobe reader is the commonest free PDF reader. Have you got it installed?
Adobe Reader can be downloaded and you will then be able to open the PDF.

Believe it or not in control panel adobe reader is there - so what has happened - why anyway did she just send me an ordinary manually written document - genuinely don't understand. My friend send the download document to her son and he converted to word. Anything help there

I think that my problem is that ok I have adobe reader but I don't have word only open office - you need to have word on your computer - I hope I have got that right.I googled there and of course it said you have to pay for word which I don't really need as I am happy enough open office for typing and printing docs. Thanks guys anyway.
To read a pdf document you only need a pdf reader, such as Adobe Reader or Foxit. You don't need either Word or OpenOffice.

If you've got Adobe Reader but can't open a pdf then one of the following must be true:
(a) the file that you've received is corrupt ; or
(b) Adobe Reader isn't working properly ; or (most likely)
(c) your computer has lost the 'file association' that tells it which program to open pdf documents with.

Try saving the file, rather than opening it directly. Then right-click on the icon for that file and select 'open with'. Do NOT simply click on 'Adobe Reader' but select 'Choose Program' instead. Then select 'Adobe Reader' and put a tick where it says 'Always use this program . . . ' before clicking 'Open'.

so it wasn't a pdf but a word doc? That would explain why neither of you could open it if you haven't got word.
An ordinary manual document would need to go by post and sending electronically is faster and cheaper.
I have to click into Adobe Reader on my desktop in order to open a .pdf document - perhaps yours is the same.
You can download a Word viewer here which allows you to view a Word document but not change it

I thought open office could read Word documents.
Yes, Open Office CAN read Word documents.
