My sky account recently has jumped to almost double with things that they increase the price of without consultation. My contract ran out last month, I have the basic TV package and both telephone and broadband. I wish to give up the tv package as a freesat box will cover my viewing needs. If I drop the TV does the sky box become redundant or does it just become a freeview top box.

I use my Skybox as Freeview (technically freesat).

You will actually get more channels than Freeview.

Thanks Mattk, I had a feeling that was the case, can I still get the basic HD channels as well, i.e BBC, ITV etc and catch up tv like I-player, I know the new Humax freesat box does that
The downside is the recording facility is disabled too, and you cannot watch previous recordings also.

Sounds like a freesat box is the answer, I had one some time ago and was quite impressed with it. Thanks Dagman
Sky have never put our price up without informing us first
