I remember a game I played which i think was on either Dreamcast or Playstation 1 that looked like this:

Top down, comic pirate ship multiplay shooting game, trapped in a maze. Micro Machine-esque.

Any ideas on the name of it ?

The game you're after is 'Overboard' and it was on the PS 1, great game!
