burning cd/other tasks

if im using nero to burn a cd, can i continue with other tasks- such as surfing online etc, or will this cause failiure?

It shouldn't cause a failure, no. Although, burning a CD is quite an intensive task for a processor to carry out, so you can expect a drop in speed of other tasks.
I usually make sure I give maximum resource to the burning process. One thing I've found really annoying the other day is if you walk away from the computer and leave it, windows XP kicks the screen saver and can log you out. This has caused a burn failure before. I've switched the screen saver off now.
