Dvd To Mpeg Conversion

I Am going on a very long coach journey and would like to watch some dvds on my mobile phone.
Has anyone successfully converted a whole dvd film into an .avi or mpeg or .mov? I can then use Nokia video manager to transfer it to my nokia.
There are several anwers online but they all seem to be old answers
I would prefer some freeware software.

In my (limited) experience, most of the free software for doing such dried up a year or so ago.
Lately, the free stuff leaves a 'watermark' on the converted film.
I sometimes find the odd film/programme on youTube and download it via this site:
http://keepvid.com/

after which I transfer it to the iPod.

Google for it and try it.

Hey thanks everyone. I have given up. I treid several but It seems none of the converters can handle dvd size files. Oh well, will just listen to music instead
