I have always had contract SIMs and now have a pay as you go Orange SIM. What happens if I run out of credit during the middle of a phone call? Will it just cut off? Can't find anything online to tell me.
Thanks Hopkirk. So a text pings up does it? I need to call a government agency from abroad and am thinking I could spend ages on hold just for the call to disconnect when I finally get through to a human :-/
At the risk of appearing to be rude may I suggest that if the call to a government agency is important to you, you make sure you have enough in credit (at least £20).
I'm with vodafone PAYG and as you try to make a call a recorded message will tell you 'your calling credit is running low, please arrange a top-up'. They also then give you a free £3 IOU which is recouped next time you top up. Not really relevant for a long foreign call though, I'd expect it would just cut out and I'm sure that's happened to me.
With Orange you have a 'reserve tank' option available, that you can 'activate' once your existing credit is low: you pay it back out of your next top up. The reserve tank is only £2.50 but good for emergencies or when you can't top up by any other means.
no expert on mobiles (can't hear them too well) but my sister said Orange is very expensive - and O2 pay as you is really the best/cheapest. Will probably get different replies but am just reiterating the sister's opinion.
Actually I forgot you can make chargeable phone calls via Skype, we just use the free video calls. Thanks, I'll look into that as it will be much cheaper
