Resolution Issues Between Ipad And Monitor (1080P)
4 Answers
Searched everywhere for some info on this, no luck. So trying n trusty Answerbank. I run a small online graphics business, I rely on good graphics. I edit in Photoshop on my monitor and they publish beautifully to my online portfolio (website) and FaceBook page brilliantly and when reviewed on my Mac/monitor look great. BUT when viewed on my ipad the quality is questionable? whites sometimes look grey and any photoshop editing is visible (not strongly) but you can see it. This doesn't apply to all my images, but one in particular which was fairly high key, looked terrible. The lesson learned here is to always double check artwork before publishing on line through the ipad, but any ideas/workarounds/suggestions would be gratefully received ;-)

My 22 inch PC desktop display is set at 1280 x 1024, so my guess is that it is a change in screen resolution causing the effect. If so, the solution would be to produce the work in 2,048 x 1,536 pixels.
1st & 2nd generation ipads used 1,024 × 768 pixels at 132 ppi, if your graphics look good on an old ipad, it is a sure sign that the screen resolution is the cause.
You may also need to ensure that the aspect ratio is compatible with the ipad.

Thanks Hymie, sorry should have mentioned my ipad is an ipad2 (old stylie) ;-). Which is what I don't quite understand, surely my monitor at 1080 would show any flaws in my editing? whereas an ipad is set at a lower res? I must be missing something obvious! I tend to edit at high resolution (and 16bit) and then re-sample the final image down to 200dpi (ignoring the high file size) and publish. At first I though it was something simple like my ipad brightness setting . . . sadly . . . no, adjusting this just made it worse.
I’m no expert – but I would still suspect that the problem is due to some form of ‘aliasing’ – whereby the ipad is somehow highlighting the editing. Besides altering the image resolution/aspect ratio – try running the image through a ‘dummy edit’, which may erase the edit lines (within the digital image) that are being picked up by the ipad.
Other than that – check out the tech sites for the ipad, to see if anyone else suffers this issue.
