On TV I often see 'also available in HD', or 'you do not have the means to receive HD'. I understand HD means High Definition, but how do I get it? Is it a plug-in or a different aerial, or what? Thanks.

You have to buy an HD set top box (I think) and have an HD ready TV
Yes...237SJ is correct.
Bear in mind that a TV screen size of 32" or less won't show much difference between a programme in HD and one in Standard Definition.
