Bt Ripoff

Was connected yesterday to BT Internet, switching (obviously) for sport. As of tonight, I'm not getting BT sport. No sign of it where I'd expect it to be ... on Freeview 58 and 59. Is there is ripoff in progress here?

We also changed for the sport. Once we had received all the kit (Hub & Vision Box) we thought when you connected box to hub we would get it. No we did not. You will need a viewing card which you have to order. We were not told this when we switched. It took a couple of days to come and once it was set up (I did have to phone technical support to be able to do this) it has been fine.

Whether or not you require a viewing card depends upon how you're seeking to receive the BT Sport channels. If it's via your TV aerial then you do need a viewing card, otherwise not:

Perhaps the OP might return to say why it was a "ripoff"- a wildly overused word IMO.

I didn't get a viewing box and no vision card. why should i need them? i'm paying for bt internet and expect to get the sport they promise without complications. this might be a case for the ombudsman ...

It's only free on Virgin if you have the XL package, other than that you have to pay.

BT website says you can watch BT Sport on Sky, on BT TV, or via the internet on PC or phone app. For watching on your TV, you need the BT TV service - this will give you the required box that will connect to your TV. BT Sport is free with BT broadband, but you need the BT TV service as well, otherwise you can only watch it via the internet or Sky. It's not available on 'standard' Freeview.

It might be best to ring them and they'll tell you exactly what you need.

First, thank you to all who have posted. I am grateful. Now, to summarise ...

On Wednesday, I was connected to BT broadband. That day, I received in the mail a package containing a BT hub and associated cabling.

There was no Vision+ box nor viewing card. Ever since, I have been trying to get BT sport. No joy.

I have tried to make sense of the BT websites (there are rather more than one) to tell me what I need to do. No joy. Talk about complicated!

The package did not contain an instruction sheet, as I would have expected.

So, now, I am sitting here wondering if I have made a very big mistake in switching to BT. I don't know where to turn for advice in exactly how to get BT sport.

I too have taken BT Broadband & BT Sport. You are right it is complicated and the website I did not think was particularly helpful.

I have a TV with freeview built in. To get BT sport onto my TV I needed to have BT Broadband. The hub that you have been sent connects to your phone line and your TV. But you will need a vision box and a viewing card. The vision box is £49 I think. The viewing card is £10. Give them a ring and explain. They were very helpful when I rang with the same problem. If you already have sky or virgin that is different.

Oooh lots of you switching because of the Sport. We're not taking up with BT but did cancel our Sky Sports package yesterday because they're no longer showing premiership rugby. Will save us £15 a month. Sky must be gutted to lose that deal.

I don't have BT but did look in to it. If you just sign up for broadband you get btsport free but have to watch via their website on your computer. Go to http://sport.bt.com/ and select watch now, then I think you have to sign in.

If you have sky you can watch free on your tv via sky box but you have to ring them up to activate it. If you don't have sky but want to watch on your tv you will have to pay extra for a bt vision box. I don't know if you can perhaps hook a computer up to a tv and watch that way? Not sure wht the channels are broadcast on freeview as they are scrambled
