Broadband

I have recently moved house and wish to get broadband (probably BT). However the existing phone points round the house have either NTL or Comtel on them. Plus using dialup internet at the moment I struggle to get a speed above 31bps.

Do you think I need to get BT out to have a look as I'm reluctant to order broadband and then get a poor speed.

I would move to BT to get a phone line installed and then sign up to Nildram as an internet service provider. They have great deals and are extremely reliable. Their technical support if ever you need them, are very good as well.

If NTL provide the current service, you are probably in a cable ready area, and could go for a cable modem option through NTL.

As has been said, if you go the BT route, first check that check that Broadband is available in your area by putting your postcode into their checker at www.bt.com

You then have more choice as to who to go with as has been said. Worth having a look at www.adslguide.com

NTL broadband, being cable, is very reliable and the speeds are good. Although I think they have caps now.

Regarding poor speeds etc. up until I had broadband installed there were times when the speeds were absolutely chronic, sometimes as low as 4,000 (this is with a BT Line) I called BT several times and they tried to improve the volume on the line etc. but never got much better-Anyway when Broadband was installed they set you up a new line , it took about 10 days to be activated but the speeds are up to what theyre advertised as (1mb) - so i wouldnt worry about slow speeds on broadband,it would be different than what youre on now.
