empty your cache?
Download Glary Utilities and give it a run.. All those temporary files bung up the works, slowing everything down. Best of luck!
It probably is not your laptop that is slow but your broadband speed.

A slow broadband speed can make it seem it is your laptop that is slow.

But if it IS your laptop then uninstall programs you don't need, make sure you have plenty of room on your hard disk, stop certain programs starting up when Windows starts if you don't need them and so on.

Also maybe run CCleaner (free program) to clear out any unwanted "rubbish"

Thanks for your replies, I've cleared the cache five times so far. I think it must be the broadband speed although it's usually very fast.
Give it a wash psybb......
show it the hammer you will belt it with if it doesn't get a move on.

Recently I have read that registry errors and spyware are the primary cause of slow performance. So I would suggest running a registry cleaner and a spyware scanner. The spyware scanner I use, recommended by an expert is superantispyware. For the best/most highly recommended registry cleaner, if anyone here has any suggestions I'd like to know myself.

It should also help to defrag monthly.
Defragging is a waste of time. It's a bit like tidying a cutlery draw in the kitchen.......It will very quickly be back in a somewhat mess... Furthermore, defragging is unlikely to speed your computer up to a point that you'll notice any difference.

Stay away from Registry Cleaners......unless you are prepared to risk upsetting you computer to a point of severely damaging the Operating System.
Alex_Higham, then how do you scan/clean registry errors?
Do not touch registry cleaners unless you know exactly what you are doing!
Hi STG.... You have asked..."then how do you scan/clean registry errors?"

If you can tell me the sort of errors which you have in mind, I would be in a better position to possibly come-up with an answer to resolve matters.

I feel sure if you research issues, you will establish that Commercial Registry Cleaners, which are designed for Windows, are Not in any way supported, or their use recommended, by Microsoft.

Unfortunately I did not have anything particular in mind and honestly I am no expert on the subject so I apologize for the suggestion.
