Yes, indeed, no problem at all.
I'd expect you to be able to install the same things on the laptop as on your desktop. But being forced to use a laptop at work now, I'd never consider one for home. Well not without plugging in a proper keyboard with no daft mousepad thingy to drive one nuts whilst trying to type, and a decent sized monitor or two.

So it would just be a matter of keeping printer plugged in and hooking up to laptop when needed ?
Question Author
The keyboard on the one I'm looking at seems fine
Pretty much.
Be careful - if your printer is old and your desktop is using an operating system other than Windows 8, you may find that there are no drivers available for your printer. I tried to migrate a 10-year old laserjet from XP to Vista and ended up buying a new printer.

Yes to the monitor, too, on most laptops.
Let us know which one you are thinking of buying.

please have a try first as tranny bought a top spec lappy and after a week and a half gave it to his bird as a present

also know a person who has a computer business and he has been busy going round and reloading windows 7 on windows 8 machines
I've been using Windows 8 for 12 months and love it. No problems at all and Windows 8.1 is even better.

Is it the EICi7?
Question Author
Yes it is Acer e1 series

I would be putting office on as its office I keep pc for as I do lots of letter writing for myself and family...
Yes, that machine will do everything you want. It is £500 at Argos, by the way - much cheaper than any where else.

This letter writing you do - do you print them off or email them? Do you use Office for anything else?
I am only asking because Office is a hugely complex and expensive piece of software and is not necessary for simple letter writing.

I do lots of spreadsheets too....occasionally PowerPoint...
:)
