Dead Pc

Was updating iTunes ...was asked to restart computer...when it shut down and screen came live again it froze...so I switched off power and then on again...but now hard drive is dead ? Is it fused ?

nothing dodgy about it the plug is "out of the socket and dead" just doing what i said always did it for me on the 4 occasions that it happened

If you were getting no power and replacing the fuse got you the screen back you clerly experienced a power spike.

You're now getting to the stage where the PC is attempting to read the bios - this is the chip holding all the configuration about what is in the machine and how to access it.

The fact that you can't get into the bios is bad news - providing that you haven't dislodged the keyboard connections or anything silimar I'd say that the power spike has damaged the machine possibly memory or processor!

Unless it's a new and expensive machine (and it doesn't sound like it) I think you're into new machine territory

Don't throw away the hard disk - open up the box and take out the hard disk (or get someone to help you) you can buy caddies that plug into a USB port that let you plug hard disks in like floppy drives

That'll give you access to all your old data, pictures etc. I'm betting the hard disk is still good

Shorting anything charged with a lump of metal is dodgy by definition. Unless designed for it, nothing should be discharged that instantly.

Hooray....Just had call from pc doctor...it's all better again...virus apparently...recommend a free download anti virus ?
