Why is it that my Google search line now starts with https://www ....... when it has normally been just http://www ....... ? Is there any advantage in it doing so and can I get rid of the 's' after http? I am using Windows XP and Internet Explorer, though I haven't so far discovered what version of IE I have - how do I find that?

To find IE you are using go to help on menu bar then click on about internet explorer.

Now I'm viewing AnswerBank I see https has mysteriously reverted back to being http. I expect 'cookies' to be deleted when I close down but Methyl indicates a more sinister activity. Giggsie, thanks for telling me how to find my version of I.E. which I now know is I.E 8.

That's interesting Methyl thank you. I am using Windows XP and IE 8. If possible I'd like to find out soon what to expect when support from Microsof stops in April. Presumably there will be lots of advice when the time comes. In the meantime I wonder if downloading Google Chrome would help and maybe another browser. Suggestions welcome.
