It depends on your system, I know some can set up alerts but I don't know how you'd do it, I guess through the Volume topic on your control panel? Personally I wouldn't want it, the ding would drive me batty, but I can see why people might want it!
What operating system are you using?

What mail system are you using?

Thank you for that boxtops.I don't get enough mail to drive me batty but want to be there when I get one from Tom Hanks -rofl Maybe someone else knows a bit more -rosy
Yes, like Boxy says.

I also hate my PC making noises at me, mine is totally silent, if it makes a noise I find it and silence it.

Windows 7 and yahoo mail also windows live mail -rosy
1. Open Windows Live Mail

2. Visit Tools > Options > General

3. There should be an option called "Play sound when new messages arrive" - tick the tickbox.

4. Click "ok" or "save" at the bottom of the window.

I'm sure there's a way of setting the sound...

Thank you for that Ed, I will have a go later. It might send me batty but I just want to try it :0)
Thank you for replying -rosy
It'll probably be fine.

What I do however is have the emails set up on my smartphone, which gives me a good way to find out if I have mail at a glance. It also means I can ignore it whenever it happens.
I had a dell computer years ago and that actually said. "You have mail" I quite liked it because I didn't get that much at the time so it didn't drive me mad
