Save On Desktop - Gone

Until very recently, if I found a site I liked, I could right click on it and be given the option to save it to my desktop. I could see the new icon and could find and open it quickly. That option appears to have gone. Anyone know why?

Why don't you just move them to 'Bookmarks'?

Never used bookmarks before and not sure what it entails! I will have a look however, thanks.

It's "Bookmarks" on Firefox...but "Favorites" (sic) on IE.
